The Regional Administrative Secretary for Kigoma, Eng. Dr.
John S. Ndunguru has insisted leaders from Mtanga and Mwamgongo villages
to administer and educate people on protecting and preserving environment for the
sake of the present and generations to come.
Dr. Ndunguru said this during a meeting held at Regional Commissioner’s
office which was organized by the Gombe National Park, aimed at giving report
about the new boundaries between Gombe National Park a the two adjacent
villages of Mtanga na Mwamgongo.
“We have to learn from some other regions in Tanzania which have long
been experiencing shortage of rainfalls
or hardly, this is due to their past mistakes they made of cutting trees, cultivating
alongside rives and other human activities which are ant-environmental friendly”
Dr. Ndunguru said
He added Kigoma region has never experience neither shortage
of
rainfalls nor food, this should not end up we have to make sure we strive as
much as possible to protect and preserve our environment.
During the report delivery the Conservator of Gombe National
Park Dr. Noelia Myonga said the long existed conflict between the Gombe
National Park and the two neighboring villages of Mtanga and Mwamgongo has
finally been resolve by the new boundaries signed by H.E. the President of URT,
Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Government

Section 3 is cancelled.
The new boundaries give Gombe National Park an area of 1.5
km2 from lake shore unto the water area and 14 km2
alongside the lakeshore and Gombe National Park. However, seven houses which
were built in the park and burial area will be left to be owned by Mwamgongo
and Mtanga villages.
Dr. Myonga explained the aim of inquiring the area is
targeted at increasing fishes and dagaa around the area which in turn will
attract tourists for traditional fishing, snorkeling, sport fishing, swimming
by boats and Canoes.
The meeting was also attended by ward representatives from Mwamgomgo, represeantatives from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, and town planner from Kigoma region.
