Belgian Government boosts honey and bees wax production in Kigoma region.

The Belgian project for supporting bee keeping in Kigoma has spent more than 3 Euros bee keepers in areas like purchasing heaves, processing, marketing, branding and packaging.
The regional commissioner for Kigoma Lt. Col. (rtd) Issa Salehe Machibya revelead this during the courtesy call meeting with Belgian Ambassador Resident in Tanzania, His Excellency Adam Koenraad.

Machibya said the support has improved greatly honey and beeswax production both in quality and quantities. He said The honey produced from Kigoma is said to be at international standard because it doesn’t contain 
The level of production has risen from 100 tons of honey and 5 tons of bees wax in 2007 to 346 and 10 tons respectively in 2013, with increase of total value earned by beekeepers from Tshs. 315 million in 2007 to Tsh. 2.14 billion in 2013.

The Project so far has benefited 3,543 beekeepers in which 831 are females. However 164 Beekeepers groups, 110 Processors and 100 traders have also been beneficence of the project. Belgium government has been supporting Kigoma Region in Beekeeping sector since 2007 to date.
On other hand the Kigoma Regional Administrative Secretary Eng. Dr. Joseph Ndunguru expressed his grateful thanks on behalf of the Government and people in Kigoma for the support offered by the Belgian Government such as capacity building to staff and the community regarding beekeeping.
Other projects which are supported by Belgian Government  in Kigoma Region include Income Generating Activities (IGA) from 2009 -2013 and Banana project in Kibondo District in 2009 - February, 2014.

On his few words Belgian Ambassador Resident in Tanzania, His Excellency Adam Koenraad said his country is underway to support Kigoma Regional in Water and Agricultural Sectors, as these two sectors have very significant positive impact to economic and social development for the people in Kigoma.
